TAPE Radio - Show #31: 'Back On The Disco Train'
So you wait for a bus... You know the rest of the story. Quite a few new bits this week, from Chloe's growling kraut-tronics from her forthcoming 'The Waiting Room' LP, through to the lush kaleidoscopic tones of Lawrence on Mule, all via one of Basteroid's melodious yet melancholy bangers from his 'Upset Ducks' LP. There's still a few older nuggets though, like George Thomson's 'Laid Back Snack Attack' - a cheeky vocal slammer that Crosstown Rebels wouldn't go near with a bargepole nowadays. Shame, really. I used to quite like some of the poppier CR releases, like the remix of Jahcoozi's 'Fish' and even Mish Mash's 'Speechless' (which got relicensed by big UK label Data and bastardised with about fifteen godawful remixes). Speaking of which, hasn't someone picked up Skwerl's 'All Woman' lately? I can't bear to think of how bad the remixes are going to be... Anyway, buy the original one on the 'Members Of The Trick' series - it's the b-side 'Betaserc' that's the dancefloor killer. Until next time!

I like the Koze remix of Lawrence quite a bit but possibly cos have od'd on Lawrence's own stuff a bit lately with his two recent Dial releases.
It's a great set opener.
Yeah, the Koze mix is great. There hasn't been any fresh material of his in ages though! I think it's needed to push up the quality of Kompakt's recent output. I mean, come on, the recent Speicher and K2 releases have been pretty damn mediocre.
I'll second that, can't think of the last thing on Kompakt I have bought. We need more Koze and Kohncke!
I was surprised by Total 8 (is it 8 this year) in that I actually liked about 3 tracks on it, which were quite decent techno. But yeah other than those haven't got a Kompakt release in a while.
Speicher has been underwhelming for ages yeah.
Yeah, picked up the vinyl of 8 on a whim without giving it a listen. The Reinhard Voigt, Thomas/Mayer, Koze, and Burger/Voigt tracks on there are all pretty decent, but they're lacking the 'je ne sais quoi' that their '05/'06 material had. Let's hope their 2008 efforts are back up to standard.
