Six of the best

Before you ask, the man in the picture above is Carnage. What, you think he spends all his time listening to music? He’s got to let off steam once in a while, and what better way than to really let rip with a cane on a willing lil’ boy’s bottom?
Ok, that’s not Carnage. I don’t know who it is; it’s eternally amazing what innocent Google image searches will dredge up from the internet’s smutty depths. There is a link though, and it’s that I simply can’t be bothered to write a full top 10 of current sure shots for you, and so I’ve settled for six – six of the best.
Before you check that out, let me draw your attention to the new TAPE myspace. Up till now, Puffin, Carnage and I have each had our own little 'space, but I thought it time we work up a page dedicated solely to TAPE and its reprobate activities, so there you have it – www.myspace.com/tapemetoyourleader - become our friend, why don’t you.
And because I love you, there’s a brand spanking new Audion on Spectral Sound for you to download. Absolutely no reloads, so if you want it be fast. Also, if you do download it, don’t FOR FUCK’S SAKE keep it in your shared folder. Let’s try and keep this blogging thing on the road by being responsible and not just spunking away an artist’s income just so you can improve your Soulseek rating or whatever. You can do that just as well with porn. So download, listen, play to your friends, don't share it with the world and buy the record when it comes out. Ok?
LCD SOUNDSYSTEM – NORTH AMERICAN SCUM (ONASTIC DUB BY JAMES MURPHY & ERIC BROUCEK) // DFA/EMI
Fucking hell, have you heard this? It’s King Kong huge. Michelle McManus huge. The original, as you pesky “internet seekers” probably already know, is a little too concertedly anthemic and radio-friendly to be taken seriously (and as likely to soundtrack ghoulish frat parties as discerning discos), but this rework, done by Bearface and, rather than Tim G, Eric Broucek (that’s Eric Rug, right?), is exactly the kind of 10 minute, trippy dub-disco odyssey that you like awake at night dreaming of [EDIT: as Tal has pointed out, Eric B is not Eric Rug but rather James Murphy's studio bud, a different chap altogether]. Very limited whites doing the rounds, so limited in fact (Phonica got a mere ten copies in yesterday) that you may now have to wait for the proper 12” release. Whatever - by hook or by crook (probably crook, knowing you, you loveable mp3-hustling swine), you need to hear this. P.S. Apparently ‘Sound of Silver’ is being entirely re-worked by Tim Goldsworthy. It’s working title is ‘Sound of Gold(sworthy)’. Seriously. Not seriously.

all very well and good, but where can we get these tracks!?
you can buy them. they're all out in the coming weeks, available from beatport.com and/or phonicarecords.co.uk . Know what I mean?
Nice use of words to describe the music.
Did you really not like Ewan's disco odyssey?
bobby - thanks. i was probably a bit harsh on ewan's disco odyssey - I just didn't think it really did the business, or had enough depth or progression to justify it's huge duration...that said, now that everyone seems to be making 10+ tracks regardless of how many (how few) ideas they have, pearson's mix seems relatively worthwhile. in truth, i need to give it another listen!
good post and awesome music too. one thing though, eric b is not the same eric from rub'n'tug if that's what you meant - it's james murphy's studio friend. the rub'n'tug one is eric duncan.
tal - you're right about eric b, thanks for pointing it out. i had assumed it was eric rug without checking...
Soft, some of your selections are spot on. I think you're wrong about the Ewan Pearson/Cortney Tidwell thang. I couldn't be doing with the vocal to start with, but it grew on me. I still think I prefer the dub.
The C2 remix of Faze Action is totally ace. No arguments there.
Have you heard that forthcoming Optimo 'Walkabout' mix on Mule Music? It's thoroughly bonkers - deep, glitchy, fucked-up electronic music from the past 30 years. Not sure if I'm loving it yet, but it's worth a listen.
sell by - cheers. I was trying to say that the vocal initially grated/baffled, but repeated listens have got me totally addicted to it - it's an unusual melody, and takes a few spins to sink in. But as you know, once it has, er, sunk, it really has properly sunk. I've not actually listen to the dub yet, will get on that today...
no heard the optimo mix, but i really like the stuff mule musiq put out in general, so will definitely have a sniff it comes my way
..p.s. is there actually a dub of the cortney t? There's an instrumental, but not actually a different version as far as i know...
You're right - it's an instrumental not a dub, though since there's the odd bit of drifty vocal towards the end it seems more like a dub to these ears. I was preferring that early on, but now I'm just confused.
Got a surprisingly good, Detroit techno-meets-minimal thing in today from Raw Fusion of all people. Can't remember the name but it was produced by one of the guys from Nuspirit Helsinki and a couple of mates. Surprising!
ooh! sounds interesting when raw fusion do that type of thing tis usually reet good, let me know more!
Puffin, your wish is my command!
Future Beat Investigators - Forthoswhoknow/Dark Suit (Raw Fusion, RAF027)
There's also a kind of soul/broken beat thing coming out that has a quite Detroit-meets-minimal remix from Markus Enochson:
Demetrius Price - No Holdin' Back [Enochson Audiobuff Tech-Soul Mix] (Raw Fusion, RAF028)
The Future Beat Investigators thing is out Feb 26th I think, the other one March 5.
you can buy them..
