TAPE Awards 2006 - Voting Closes Soon!

So it's reached that point in the year again - time for the end of year lists to come out. Seeing as it's the end of TAPE's first year in the blogosphere, I thought that we'd do our own little awards type thing to honour the great DJs, acts, and releases of 2006. The categories are listed below, and you can vote in the comments section of this very post. Also, to make things a bit more interesting, I thought I'd tie in a little competition. Everyone who gets the correct answer will get their name put into a hat, and the winner will get a fresh new double 12" copy of a TAPE favourite, Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani's self-titled Metro Area LP. By the way, due to the nature of the question, people who know us personally aren't allowed to enter. So there.

The categories for the awards are:

12" Single Of The Year

LP Of The Year

Compilation Of The Year

DJ Of The Year

MixTAPE Of The Year

Nominations:

Richard Carnage - After Hours
Richard Carnage - Don't Techno For An Answer
Richard Carnage - Mutant Disco
Richard Carnage - This Is Mutant Pop
Richard Carnage - Tape Me Out (Part 1)
Richard Carnage - Tape Me Out (Part 2)
Puffin Jack - May '06 Mix
Puffin Jack - Doodledub
Gareth Watkins - This Is Mutant Pop
Mike Bull - Champagne Tastes On A Beer Budget
Mike Bull & Gareth Watkins - Triple Drop and Lose Your Shoes
Mike Bull & Gareth Watkins - Death to Warped Vinyl
October - May 2006 Mix
Nightmoves - Guest TAPErs Mix
Matt Waites - September '05 Mix
Arveene - Guest TAPErs Mix
Sean Johnston - Autumn Machine Music
DJ Heartbeat - September Mixtape
Eddy Current & KSPR.SPKR - Miraculeusement: Un Mixage Collant

Competition question: If you add up all the ages of the TAPE members (that's Mr Soft, Puffin
Jack, and me - Richard Carnage), what number do you get?

As I said earlier, get your votes and competition answer in the comments box. If you do know us, don't worry, you can still make your votes count in the poll. If you're leaving an anonymous comment, then leave your name to prevent multiple votes and to make sure that we know who's won the competition. So what are you waiting for - get voting!

answer: 71 i think-.

it'd be helpful if the nominations we're divided by categories. Do we have to vote for these nominees or can we suggest our own?

12 Inch - Dump Truck Ep/Cobblestone Jazz
LP - Return To Cookie Mountain/TV on the Radio
Compilation - Warp Works & Twentieth Century Masters/London Sinfonietta
DJ - James Holden/Prins Thomas
Mixtape - Mutant Disco

Honorary Mentions - Sly Mongoose, Tiny Sticks, See Mi Yah remixes, Doobledub.

I reckon the combined age of Tape must be 70. Can't split Holden and Prins so sorry about that.

Thanks for that, kept me busy during the lunch break.

moka - the nominations provided are just for the 'mixTAPE of the year' category, that is the best homegrown mixtape posted on the blog. If you haven't heard any of 'em, get downloading, or feel free to leave that category out of your submission.

12": Luciano & Salif Keita - Yamore (Remix)

Hey Alex - hope you had a good time on Thursday. Shame that we were busy playing as we definitely would've hooked up with you otherwise. Erm... regarding the guest chart, you didn't do us a mix so you don't get in there! Of course you're allowed to enter though - the Skull Juice massive's opinion is always valued!

tough call, but:

12": shit robot - wrong galaxy
(followed closely by 'relevee (mixes)', 'girl from botany bay', 'seeing through shadows', sleeparchive's mix of 'dem never know', 'hamas rule' and 'full clip')

lp: my my - songs for the gentle
(followed closely by 'orchestra of bubbles', and on an indie tip, camera obscura's effervescent 'let's get out of this country')

comp: michael mayer - immer 2

mixTAPE: heartbeat's mix
(followed closely by johnston's autumn machine music and carnage's after hours)

combined tape age: 7890 (that's right, bitches, I'm immortal. Not as good as it sounds.)

also, look out for my TAPE Review of the Year, which I've been slaving over for weeks now, and which will be unveiled before xmas appears - intended, apart from anything, to compensate for my relative blogging quietness, it will include my top 50 singles of the year, and a more narrative look at the top producers, productions, moments, djs, nights, trends and general bollocks that 2006 has given us. To think i spent the first half of the year moaning about the lack of good tunes....

Your vote stands, Miss Forsberg, but please thing of at least trying to vote for something else, even if it's bloody Razorlight for the best album! If you like Sean's mixes then you're bound to have an ear for a good tune. Anyway... less of this bickering and on with more voting!

The Loco Dice EP is brilliant, in my opinion of course. Four quality pieces of music that I can't stop listening to. Admitidly it has only just been release and may be a bit soon to be calling my favourite EP of the year..... Anyway, it stays as my favourite EP of the year closely followed by Seph's Wooden EP, Martin Buttrich's - Full Clip EP (his one on Poker Flat is wicked too) and the EP on Clever Music that has the Gurtz Remix of Magda Has a Little Troll.

I can't think of favourite compilation bbut my favourite mix is Butane - Live @ The Works in Detroit. Classy afterhours madness.

Puffin - Have you got the internet installed in your gentlemans lounge now? You seem to be on the net rather a lot these days.

fuck, Larry Heard ft Mr White -- The Sun Can't Compare is a serious late contender for 12 of the year. anyone who was there for Luciano at Fabric and stayed it out to the end will know exactly what I mean.
