Mythologies

OK, this isn't exactly a proper post, in that there's nothing to download (coming very, very soon, I promise), but do read on...

Mr Soft's Current Top 10

1. GUI BORATTO - SOZINHO // K2 Seemingly named after some as-yet-unknown 12-year-old Brazilian player who's going to destroy us in the world cup, this is the better class of K2 record - sticky, tetchy minimalism that gets me right there...

2. BLACK STROBE - NAZI TRANCE FUCK OFF (HOLDEN REMIX) // CROSSTOWN REBELS Finally seeing the light of day, this is almost as good as I'd hoped for. Which is pretty fucking good.

3. AXEL BARTSCH - REDLIGHT // KOMPAKT Kompakt's rigorously assured place in the techno firmament means that some of their releases aren't getting the attention they deserved (if only they'd stop swamping us with take-it-or-leave-it K2 rekkids...)- this track is the kind of business I used to rely on Speicher for. Dangerously nice.

4. SUXUL MUSIC - FANCY (JOHN TEJADA REMIX) // SUXUL The sweetly promiscuous Johnny T rises above the one-dimensional jacking of his recent Poker Flat 12" to deliver some uncharacteristic sounds. Rollin', rollin', rollin', don't you know...

5. THE KLAXONS - GRAVITY'S RAINBOW (NIGHT MOVES REMIX) // NOIZE Ruthless, roof-busting indie/electro-house anthem, coming soon.

6. WESTEND GHETTO - GLITCHGIRLS EP // ADJUNCT Class four-tracker of 'boompty minimal' (c)Skull Juice 2006. Definitely worth a sniff.

7. M.A.N.D.Y. - SAY A LITTLE PRAYER (DUB) // GET PHYSICAL Mean dub of one of my favourite Get Phiz tracks to date; on the label's fourth anniversary (who the hell celebrates a fourth anniversary?) mix CD.

8. YO LA TENGO - I CAN HEAR THE HEART BEATING AS ONE LP// MATADOR I've always rated the 'Tengo, but had never heard this album till very recently. Foolish of me.
9. TANGOTERJE - GET IT ON // SUPREME My favourite edit off Terje's Ironkuru mix gets a pressing - breezy disco-funk, getting in through the back door...
10. DEPECHE MODE - THE DARKEST STAR (HOLDEN DUB) // XL The kind of 'ting which reminds you why we all hold James H in such ludicrously high regard. More going on here than in my entire head last night. I was tired.

AND..........

I have a new scheme, which I'd like you to participate in. Every Tuesday or Wednesday, from today onwards, I'll ask you - the dear, the gentle - what you're listening to and loving at the moment, and you can, if you wish, leave a comment or three at the bottom of the post with your suggestions, and, come the weekend, I'll compile the most interesting/popular/essential selections into what I hereby declare, the weekly TAPER's Chart. Is all this a wee bit magnanimous for a lowly techno blog? Almost certainly. But come on, let's try it. Get commenting...

AND YES, MORE MUSIC SOON, I PROMISE

HYSTEREO - EXECUTIVE MEMO (SEBASTIEN LEGER REMIX)
- As a local label I should really love Soma but they're very hit or miss. This is special though.

THOMAS SCHUMACHER - LUST
According to Juno it's just been repressed altough I've had it for ages on Bush (are they still going?). Billie Jean y'all.

NATHAN FAKE 'CHARLIE'S HOUSE (APPARAT MIX)'
IDM, glitchy breakiness. Very Boc. Very good.

ISOLEE 'BLEU (DIXON EDIT)'
The best track on the EP! Oooooh controversy! hehe

MYNC 'SOMETHING ON YOUR MIND (SWITCH REMIX)'
You CAN polish a turd!

SWEET N CANDY 'UNBREAKABLE (EXERCISE ONE MIX)'
There's a Justin Maxwell mix too but this one's the pick.

Totz - You can check out that Trentmoller track on the first 'Tape Me Out' mix that I did for our night. It's down as 'Part 2' on the blog but that's just cos they go better in sequence that way. Scroll down the January listings to check it out!

We've also been loving all the Quiet Village stuff. Bloody expensive records, mind! I'm sure there's a cheesy popular record sampled on each of them but I just can't put my finger on the tracks (particularly 'Can't Be Beat' and 'Pillow Talk'). Can anyone help out there? Check back for a track posting.

Blink - I've been hearing really good things of the Apparat mix of Fake. Any chance of a yousendit?

okey-dokey heres my latest Chart then. alot of dave taylor stuff here, but hes done loads lately, and frankly: Im addicted.

Herve - I'm Mo Try (Dubsided)
New to the dubsided lineup, great addition!

Sharon Phillips - Want 2 Need 2(Switch Remix) (Brickhouse)
If Trentemoller's mix wasnt good enough, you will love Switch's Stomper!

Induceve - Stay Cool (Dubsided)
Dave Taylor & Jesse Rose present their latest EP, title track 'Warehouse Shit' is one to look for too!

Solid Groove & Sinden - Gotta Get Up (Counterfeet)
Very rare White EP, with some productions with Graeme Sinden, and some urban stuff under the names A. Brucker & Sinden

Radio Slave - My Bleep (Rekid)
Matt Edwards latest production, nice to hear some more originals rather than remixes from the Slave.

Coldcut - True Skool (Switch Remix) (Ninja Tune)
Roots Manuva's vocals and Taylor's production fit like hand to glove.

Edu K - Sex-O-Matic (Solid Groove Remix)(Man Recordings)
On Germany's Man recordings, the original is absoulte shite, but Taylor saves the day yet again with a great remix, with some crazy German vocals (i think its german anyway)

Izit? - Heavy What? (Honkey Version) (Made To Play)
Jesse Rose's label, put out release no.3 . here Rose & Ex-Switch man Trevor Loveys, provide 4 different versions to the track 'Heavy What?', my favourite being this mix though, its got some cheeky banjo samples. Classic.

Mystery Jets - The Boy Who Ran Away (Riton Re-Dub) (679 Recordings)
Im not just a Switch nutter. I love indie too, and here Riton bridges the gap for me with an awesome re-dub of this track from the Mystery Jets.

New Order - Regeret (Tocadisco Dub) (New State Recordings)
Was a bit weary of Tocadisco at first... thought their stuff was a bit to mainstream for me... but this dub is good stuff.

just a couple of things...

minilogue – the girl from botany bay

my my – serpentine

hot chip – over and over (justus köhncke mix) (justus's awful pun amuses me way more than it should)

and an old track (but new to me),
chris & cosey – walking through heaven

oh man, you should get some better education - so you think the vocals dave taylor uses for his "sex-o-matic" mix are german? you probably didnt buy the vinyl, did you? then you maybe wouldve found out that this is from brazil, dude! thats what people call baile funk.
