Charts of pleasure

Mr Soft's Current Faves

1. THE KLAXONS - GRAVITY'S RAINBOW (NIGHT MOVES REMIX) // CDR
Believe me - you'll be hearing a lot of this in the coming months. Can't get enough of it - makes me feel like I'm 21 again, and I'm only 22 innit....
2. RLF - UNKNOWN // CDR
Amazing, electro/dubstep/indefinable bass excursions from UK-based Ralph - one to watch.
3. ROMAN FLUGEL & CHRISTOPHER DELL - SUPERSTRUCTURES // LABORATORY INSTINCT
Seriously serious tech-jazz soundscapes from Deutschland
4. ELLEN ALLIEN & APPARAT - JET // BPITCH CONTROL
Dreamy, post-Border Community techno-pop, made to accompany the winter sun
5. REYNOLD - FOR HOUSE (MAGDA REMIX) // SUSHITECH PURPLE
Dubby, Magda-style minimalism from...Magda!
6. BOOKA SHADE - IN WHITE ROOMS // GET PHYSICAL
A rip-off of 'Mandarine Girl' by the people who made 'Mandarine Girl'. Sickly sweet, impeccably programmed...a guaranteed summer smash. Enjoy it while you can.
7. DOMINIK EULBERG - POTZBLITZ & DONNERWETTER // COCOON
Supreme, micro-trance Eulbergism from last summer's 'Cocoon E' compilation.
8. APHEX TWIN - SELECTED AMBIENT WORKS '85-'92 LP// WARP
About every four months, this is ripe for rediscovery. So good....
9. JESSE ROSE - YOU'RE ALL OVER MY HEAD // DUBSIDED
Guilty, beefy pleasure.
10. UFFIE - READY TO UFF (MR OIZO REMIX) // ED BANGER
J'adore le oizo hip-house func

'Hype' Chart: wondrous things, yet to come

1. DAFT PUNK - THE BRAINWASHER (EROL ALKAN'S HORRORHOUSE DUB)
- Not to mention his mix of Hot Chip. Can he top 'Do You Want To'?
2. DARK WATER - BIG CITY / JAMES HOLDEN - AT THE CONTROLS CD
New Border Community 12" and the '06 Holden manifesto (inc. his long-awaited, and probably underwhelming [my expectations are LUDICROUSLY high], mix of Black Strobe). Keep it comming, proggers
3. DAMIAN LAZARUS & MATT STYLES - GET LOST
Due some time in the next few months, Lazarus describes this, with typical modesty, as the mix album to end all mix albums. Come on then...
4. DELIA & GAVIN - REVELEE (CARL CRAIG REMIX)
At first I was charmed, but now Tim Sweeney's chatter is starting to annoy. Headed our way with a DFA mix on the flip very fucking soon...
5. RICARDO VILLALOBOS - FABRIC CD
This was announced a long, long time ago. Finally, it seems it'll see the light of day. Which is more than can be said for Villalobos.
6. BOOKA SHADE - MOVEMENTS LP
Ok, we've heard it, and it's really good. Now I'm interested to see what the impact is...
7. TIEFSCHWARZ - DAMAGE (M.A.N.D.Y REMIX)
Odds on to be rather smart
8. NEW AME 12"
Where do they go from 'Rej'?
9. THE KLAXONS - GRAVITY'S RAINBOW (NIGHT MOVES REMIX)
As you may have gathered from my psychotic championing, this deserves to be big
10. THE NEXT BIG THING
Bit of a cop-out. But seriously - any ideas?

Claude VonStroke's full length Beware of the Bird that's set to drop in May is one of my favorites of the year. The promos I have are rocking my socks. You may recall the track Chimps he did for Get Physical's Full Body work out as well as Deep Throat. His next singleThe Whistler is the catchiest thing I've heard in years, and quite possibly the most irritating yet beautiful noise of all time. Keep an eye out for it.

You can listen to full Carl Craig mix of Revelee on this Optimo Mix for Radio1 (starts about 2:28 and it's great, with a Timothy Leary sample on it)

Alright boy. Sorry for my laziness on the blog! I've no excuse apart from the fact that I've been concentrating on the new Tape mix. I'll be posting up details of the new night later on today and maybe a few mp3s. Good to see Eulberg's 'Thunder & Lightning' track on the ol' chart! I'll give you a call/see you on MSN later.

Mix album to end all mix-albums will be released in a week or two. It`s called 'At the controls' and James Holden is responsible for it. Oh my gosh!

Next big thing? Hmhm. Apart from the Holden EP forthcoming on Border Community & the Booka Shade album, I really am hoping for a new 12' of Paul Kalkbrenner on Bpitch. Most underrated producer around.

from the way you describe the forthcoming James Holden remix of Blackstrobe, it sounds like you have not heard it yet. Underwhelming is no where close to an accurate description. I'm not overwhelming would suffice either. It's massive!

no kev, i haven't heard it yet, but it's been so long since i became aware of its existence (literally 6 months) that my excitement had come full circle and i was preparing myself to be disappointed. so glad you say it's good, i'm excited again....

benedict - that's how i imagine 'nazi trance' will be - great, but not as great as six months of fervent anticipation had hoped. i almost don't want to hear it now, you know? it'll be interesting to see if it does get released on crosstown (b/w with Eulberg mix of Bucci??)

peter - huntemann is definitely good, but has he got what it takes to raise his head above a lot of other similarly-minded producers? having said that, the 'black ice' 12" with bodzin was pretty fucking decent...we'll see.

cameron, i'm originally from sunny Hull in Yorkshire, spent three years at Bristol uni where I met Richard Carnage & Puffin Jack and started our night TAPE. I'm currently living in Oxford as a one-year postgrad, soon to be upping sticks to our clogged capital; Puffin & Rich are still in Bristol, where our new night, MUTANT POP, is beginning next month. So there you go. Glad you like the blog, sorry the posting's somewhat erratic...

Yup, Bodzin & Huntemann's 'Black EP' was some hot shizzle. It's nice when you get a 3 tracker with no filler on it. We had a quick meeting with minimal Mike Bull last night to sort out some stuff for the night. Date and venue are sorted and we're currently in the process of sorting out an afterparty venue so that it can go up to 6am. More news later today/tomorrow...

About the James Holden nazi-trance mix: did nobody lay their hands on the underrated (!) Nightdrive mix-cd from Slam then? Well worth a listen I'd say...
