The End is nigh

Hey ho. Two things going on at London's End venue in the near future. First up this very weekend, when Crosstown Rebels takes over the club for a 2-room electro-house extravaganza. Damian Lazarus's ego (pictured below; the man, not the ego) will continue its skyward ascent as he headlines the main room, no doubt packing his usual arsenal of filthy, druggy, trancey sounds. Support comes from Kiki & Silversurfer, appearing in their live incarnation which I've not witnessed before - though their shared pedigree hints at very good things. Trapez-afilliated Poles 3 Channels (whose Super Jurek! EP on Crosstown last November was arguably the label's weakest release so far, in spite of the fabulous B-side I've posted below) will also be plying their trade in a minimal vein, backed up by Scarlett Etienne. The lounge looks to be the most exciting line-up though, with pole position being held by bumpin' house legend Rob Mello (check out his mix of Subjekt's 'Stepback'). Also along for the ride: Andre Kraml of Firm/'Safari' fame (pictured below); Jamie Jones (whose 'Amazon' 12", out now on Freak-N-Chic and available to download somewhere in this blog, is proably my favourite release of the year so far); and Phonica/Crosstown's ever-reliable Matt Styles. That room is going to be hot, hot, hot. I won't be able to make it, but those in London this weekend are well advised to attend; I hate The End as a venue (especially at weekends), but the thunderous soundsystem and guaranteed profusion of fun-loving, preposterously hairstyled European girls go some way to justifying the steep £15 entry. Were it the impossibly classy line-up that Lazarus took around Europe under the Rebels banner last summer - including Pier Bucci live, Jennifer Cardini, Matt Tolfrey and others, as well as K&S, Mello and Styles - I would definitely be there. Still, it's Crosstown and frankly you can't go wrong....

And if it's really garish electro-house you crave, you could do worse than attend Tiga's 'Sexor' album launch-party at Bugged Out! on 18th February, also at The End. As well as two sets by the man himself, there'll be a main-room slot from pseudonymous Belgians Speculoos DanceSquad (almost certainly 2ManyDJs) and an exclusive live set from Tiga's 'earliest rave influence' (my guess is Altern8, pictured). The AKA bar will be hosted by Phonica - with the mighty trio of Simon Rigg, Heidi & Hector La Raza behind the decks. Bound to be a thoroughly silly, killer night...
